Winery Note: The Col Mountain Grenache project has been revelatory for us. The deep red and incredibly rocky soils of this special vineyard combine with the moderately warm climate to produce Grenache with brilliant raspberry and red cherry vibrancy and a seductive rose aroma. Spice, pomegranate and rhubarb elements add complexity. This is a medium weight wine of excellent harmony and purity that shows terrific balance between fruit intensity and delicacy. It is a smooth and flowing wine. It has become a personal favourite, for it buys in to the “warm climate Pinot” nature of fine, fruit pure Grenache. Delicious! #NEWBINDI

Gemtree Small Batch SBO Grenache 2020 Organic [JS 94]
James Suckling – 94 Points McLaren Vale Wine Show 2021 – GOLD – 94 Points Silver Medal, Global Organic Masters 2021. Quite pale ruby, watery rim. Interesting nose, some ripe red berry fruit, crushed starwberry, also some apple and almost herbal, stemmy notes, touch of apple. Palate too, lovely mix of soft, ripe, perfumed cherry and strawberry fruit, then some stemmy, herbal character, dried flowers, layered, complex interesting wine with touch of spice, some dry fine tannin, but core is lovely soft red berry fruit. Nice balance too. Fresh, long, lifted. Hard not to drink. Just a touch natural on the finish, bit of apple....
Head Barossa Old Vine Grenache 2019 [JH 97]
James Halliday (97 points & "Winner of the James Halliday Grenache Challenge 2020"): “The winning wine was a superb example of regionality and complexity, with earthy savouriness coupled with beautifully bright fruit and structure.” James Suckling (95 points): "This has rich blackberry and raspberry aromas with cloves, spicy oak, red plums and violets. The palate is very plush, deep and smoothly textured. Ripe tannins stretch long and carry blueberry, dark-cherry and blackberry flavors. Drink or hold."
Head Barossa Old Vine Grenache 2020 [WF 93]
Wine Front 93 points. "From a vineyard in Krondorf. 80 year old vines with 8% Mataro. Juicy, purple, ripe raspberry, brown spices. Gummy feel, saucy and spicy, tannin has some grit, and finish is jubey and fairly long. Feels a little different from the usual offerings from Head, in terms of Grenache, though that’s perhaps a function of the vintage." - Gary Walsh, Wine Front. Grenache sourced from vines in the Krondorf subregion with an average age of 80 years old. Red and dark plum fruits flow forth here, with plenty of spice backing, a light sheath of red floral notes and a waft of ginger cake. There is abundant, pithy...
Massena Stonegarden Grenache 2019 [WA 97]
Wine Advocate 97 points. Total production 208 dozen. The 2019 Stonegarden Grenache is made with fruit from the Stonegarden Vineyard (bush vines planted circa 1858) in the Eden Valley. This is so good. It shows all of the mineralogy and graphite tannins that are so commonly found in the Eden Valley—part of what makes it such a special place. I was there recently, and driving up Mengler's Hill not only affords you a most epic view back over the Barossa Valley floor, but I find it the best place to understand the rocks in the earth that rise up out of the ground there. This wine has such endurance of flavor in the mouth that I can...
Seppeltsfield Great Terraced Vineyard Barossa Grenache 2021 [AC 97]

Planted in 1855 and re-planted commencing in 1958. Teusner G Barossa Grenache 2018 [JH 94]
Lovely expression of grenache. It has meat on its bones yet it remains delicate; everything here feels as though it's been etched into place. It tastes of red licorice and asphalt, twiggy spices and cedar, and at all times it's the Barossa and grenache doing the talking, oak in a supporting role only. It's another winner from the Teusner team. 94 points Campbell MW winecompanion.com.au.
Turkey Flat Grenache 2021 [JH 96, Trophy]
Trophy, Queensland Royal Wine Show 2023. Gold Medal, Barossa Wine Show 2022. "The estate vines are predominantly over 100 years old and the ’16 vintage won the ’17 Jimmy Watson Trophy. Bright, clear colour announces a perfumed red flower and fruit bouquet, the palate taking that cue and adding some purple fruit and gently savoury notes for the finish. Great value." - James Halliday, 96 points. Turkey Flat has more than 25 years experience in making Grenache. This older variety for South Australia has a natural home in the Barossa, although respect for the variety as a maker of fine wine has only recently been achieved....
Varney Wines Grenache 2022 [JH 94]
An address ascending. Its GSM, the only one with the prerequisite rivets of savoury tannin, spice and Mediterranean aura in the country. This, its acolyte, is by far the best release of grenache here to date. Mercifully, devoid of eucalyptus. Cherry pie, pomegranate, persimmon, kirsch and a broad slake of star anise, dried thyme and lavender. Alan Varney understands the need for tannin, the pinion of compression and the inherent tension that comes with it, as much as the bulwark against fruit sweetness, something that comes a little too easy in this country. A rather fine wine at a very fair price. 94 points. Ned Goodwin MW Published 02...
