Cannonau is the local Sardinian name for Grenache, where it has been grown for a thousand years. Colour: ruby red. Initially grown in the Alghero area, it then spread to the rest of the island thanks to the Camaldolese monks, who began to cultivate it near the convents (hmmmm).
