Sourced exclusively from the Lovedale vineyard, Elizabeth has been quintessential Hunter Valley Semillon since the early days.  No frills in the vinification: cool fermented for 14 days in stainless-steel tanks with cultivated yeast. Spent two months on lees before clarification and bottling. The fruit profile is the expected lime/lemon flavours, not so much the slinky acidity which makes it very much a now or later proposition – an outright bargain. 95 points. The fruit is crushed to the press, settled and racked to tank for a cold ferment and lees ageing. Scented white flowers and lemony freshness with a cleansing palate. The fruit has good integrity, and the mid-palate has pleasing texture and breadth, plus soft, rounded edges. It is a harmonious, balanced drink with a beautiful limey core. This wine has been handled with kid gloves: hand picked and destemmed, 10% retained as whole bunches. Held in cold soak for three days, open fermented with thrice daily plunging; eight days on skins, then matured in French puncheons for eight months. The colour is excellent, and the abundant red fruits and superfine tannins are as good as they come. Once harvested, the Chardonnay (100%) grapes are fermented without the skins, and then the base wine undergoes natural second fermentation. Bianco Bianco is fresh and fragrant, with overtones of just-ripe fruit. It has a fine, persistent bead that makes it suitable both as an aperitif and as an accompaniment to fried vegetable or fish platters.

Jasper Morris 94 points. Clear pale lemon. The nose does not really speak at this stage. The volume of fruit is present, but perhaps not quite the nobility. Perhaps this is just very backward, with saline and citrus notes, with clearly some concentration on the palate. Drink from 2024.

This is the fourth vintage of this wine after re-planting. Our idea has always been to make what is basically a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from this unique vineyard. It is not a true single-vineyard in that we have blended in barrel selections of the best of our other vineyards. The Cabernet has a very intense cassis aroma with unique citrus-rind notes. It has a firmer tannin structure than many of our wines, but still with the elegance for which Jonkershoek Valley wines are known. This wine is based around the highest elevation vineyard on the estate, which at 550m is arguably one of Stellenbosch’s highest Cabernet vineyards....

Mataro was brought to Australia by James Busby in 1832 from Perpignan in the Roussillon in southern France and has shown its suitability to the Barossa Valley climate exceptionally well ever since. A Rhône-inspired white blend of marsanne and roussanne from the Turkey Flat vineyards in Bethany and Stone Well; whole-bunch pressed with some skin contact and a portion aged in new oak. Pale straw with some intriguing struck flint and cordite notes layered above the juicy white peach, lemon and apple fruit base. Hints of nougat, toasted almonds, crème fraîche, white flowers and ginger complete the picture. Dry with a lovely textural component, a minerally acid line and excellent clarity on the finish.
