Krondorf, Barossa Valley - 100% Shiraz

The Krondorf Shiraz is from vines planted in 2014 that immediately surround our winery. These Shiraz vines are a selection of four of my favourite blocks/clones that were chosen for their ability to produce high quality wines with beautiful characters. We've been waiting for the vines to mature with anticipation of the fruit’s quality also because of the brilliant heavy red clay over calcareous subsoils they grow on. These soils are highly regarded for producing Shiraz with wonderful fruit power and tannin structure suitable for ageing. The vineyard is strongly influenced by cool gully winds from the Kaiser Stuhl and High Eden that sit above the Krondorf sub region. The vines are organically farmed, hand rod and spur pruned and handpicked. 14.6% Alc.

Tasting Notes: Shades of black and darkness with powerful blackberry fruits and peaks of blue flowers. Smells of structure and tannin with its carbon and graphite-like tones. The clays and calcare of the Krondorf soils giving rise to dark structural power yet there’s a freedom and naturalness about the wine. Nerve and energy in the black fruits moving through to a deep silky tannin finish. Drinkability meets excellent ageing potential right here. Will totally satisfy that Barossa Shiraz itch and some.

Sourced from 2014-planted shiraz vines in the subregion of Krondorf. Deep yet juicy blackberry, black cherry and damson plum fruits with some blueberry lift. Hints of baking spice, graphite, violets, turned earth, dark chocolate and licorice. Some nice Krondorf compression here, some light ferrous tones too, with a solid fruit presence, bright cadence and a distinctly contemporary Barossan vibe. 93 points.
