Albet i Noya Lignum Negre is an organic red wine made by Albet i Noya with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha Tinta and Merlot varieties in the D.O. Penedès(Catalonia).
A family project in the Penedès region, this winery is now run by the fourth generation and has become a pioneering winery in organic vineyard cultivation. This working philosophy was started by Josep Maria Albet i Noya in 1979 and has continued with the recovery of native pre-phylloxera varieties and the meticulous study of all the plots according to their orientation, altitude and soil composition.
Produced from vines with an average age of 17 years planted in clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 250-320 metres above sea level. Under the influence of the Mediterranean climate, they are cultivated following the principles of organic viticulture and limiting production in favour of berry concentration.
After the grapes have been harvested and selected by hand, a 7-day fermentation begins with native yeasts and a maceration of 6-10 days with two pump-overs per day. The wine is aged in 225-litre French oak barrels for 11 months and finally refined in the bottle for 4 months.
A full-bodied but very versatile red wine.
